Kirkus Reviews

It was an exciting day when I received the review of SHADOWS IN OUR BONES from Kirkus Reviews

They called the book “An eloquent historical novel that explores race and heritage.”

I couldn’t be more pleased. My spirits are soaring, and Dobby says he’s very proud.

After a lovely synopsis of the story, the review says nice things about my writing skills. Kirkus Reviews wrote, “In this illuminating and lucid novel, Merrill … deftly fictionalizes a shameful episode in American history…”

The review continues, “Her impressive dedication to thoroughly researching the subject is demonstrated by her inclusion of 50 pages of reproduced original source articles that are intriguing ancillary material. The author’s powerful generational story skillfully questions whether people in modern times have become more enlightened in their views on race and identity. This is a valuable look at an American tragedy.” If you’d like to read the whole review click here.

If you’ve read SHADOWS IN OUR BONES, I hope you’ll tell your friends about the book and my website. I’d love to hear from you. You can leave a review of my books on any website, write comments on the blog page or send me an email.

Also, if you happen to belong to any online book clubs, please share this book. After all, I’d love to hear from Reese, or Oprah, or Jenna or….?
